Intex Challenger K1 Review

The Intex Challenger K1 is a single person inflatable kayak that comes at an extremely affordable price, this makes it great for those with a very small budget or those who only use a kayak a few times each year. Because it’s inflatable its incredibly easy to move around from one location to another and great for those who don’t have the capability of moving a full sized kayak around.

The Intex Challenger K1 features a single Boston valve, this means you don’t have multiple valves or multiple compartments to blow up, simply insert your pump and away you go. The Intex Double Quick II Hand Pump that is included with the kayak inflates on both the upstroke and the down stroke, this means your kayak will inflate in half the time many other kayaks would take.

This kayak also features a removable skeg system, this allows for amazing directional stability whilst out paddling on the water. The hull of the kayak will move through the water with ease even with the low profile of the Intex Challenger K1, whether it be a lake or calm river, however, this type of kayak wasn’t built for anything above a Class 1 river. While it is built from a rugged and durable construction that won’t puncture if you bump into rocks or other debris, it is simply not meant for white waters.

The I-beam floor of the K1 gives you a good solid feel and helps to maintain the rigidity, this is achieved without sacrificing any comfort and thanks to the adjustable inflatable seat, comfort is something this kayak definitely excels in. The maximum capacity of 220 lbs will mean larger folks may have an issue on the water so if you are over 220 lbs then you may need to look at other inflatable kayaks such as the x or x.

Included with the Intex Challenger K1 is a 96-inch aluminium paddle with rubberised grips for maximum comfort, this paddle is perfectly sized for just about everyone so shouldn’t need replacing with something larger or smaller. Their are also storage areas behind the seat and underneath the cargo net located at the front of the kayak. Additional storage space can be found around your legs which means you can easily carry a picnic or camping gear with you. However, it is worth noting that none of this storage space is water-tight and so items could get wet.

Overall the Intex Challenger K1 is a terrific kayak when all things are considered, it is meant for beginners or those who just want a bit of fun on the water, and that is exactly what it provides. Some folks worry about inflatable kayaks because they could possibly tear, however, at the price these sell for you could simply buy another one and barely notice a dent in your bank account.
